IT STARTED, AS MOST GOOD THINGS DO, ON A SOCCER FIELD.
For us, soccer has never been just a game. It’s been the backdrop to a lifelong friendship.
We’re Rowland and Stephen. We met before we properly kick a ball and have been best friends ever since, spending our childhoods on the same side of the pitch from elementary school through high school. The game was our language, our teacher, our bond.
Life took us in different directions - business school at Columbia and Kellogg, careers in consulting and start-ups - but the game never left us. At Columbia, Rowland met Hashim, and our duo quickly became a trio, united by early morning recruiting sessions, late-night study groups, and a shared, deep-rooted passion for soccer.
THE GAP WE COULDN'T IGNORE
As fans, adult league players, and members of pick-up groups, we felt a growing disconnect. The giant brands spoke a language of celebrity and spectacle, but they weren't speaking our language—the one spoken every day on grassroots pitches, in champions league watch parties, and in the banter between friends.
Our idea came from a simple truth we all knew: the position you play on the field often reflects the person you are off it. The disciplined defender, the creative midfielder, the decisive striker—these are more than roles; they are archetypes. We saw a world of stories, identities, and personalities that the big brands were completely missing.
THE "EFF IT" MOMENT
After countless conversations, we had our "eff it" moment. We decided to build the brand we wished existed.
We called the coaches who shaped us, the soccer facility owners we knew, and the friends we grew up playing with. We asked, we listened, and we confirmed our belief: there was a space for a brand that was truly from the community, for the community.
